That $50 "artisan" pasta maker I bought last month was a total dud

Saw it at a pop-up market downtown and the guy swore it was handcrafted in Italy. I got it home, tried to roll out some dough for fettuccine, and the handle seized up after three turns. Took it apart and found a cheap plastic gear inside painted to look like metal. Now I'm out 50 bucks and back to using my old hand crank from the thrift store. Anyone else fall for one of these fancy looking kitchen gadgets that just don't work?

Did you check if the pop-up vendor even had a business license or a real return policy? I see these "artisan" booths at every weekend market now, half of them are just dropshippers with fancy packaging. The worst part is they know people won't drive back to complain over 50 bucks, so they just pack up and move to another city next week. If you paid with a credit card, I'd try a chargeback for misrepresentation. That painted plastic gear is straight up fraud.
