My Tuesday dinner plan got wrecked by a power outage
I was all set to make a big pot of chili, had everything chopped and ready. Then the power went out for two hours right at 5 PM. Ended up eating cold sandwiches by candlelight, which was kind of a bummer. Has anyone else had to totally switch gears on dinner because of something random like that?

Oh man, that's the worst feeling when you're all prepped and ready to go. Had a similar thing happen last winter when a water main break shut off the kitchen sink right as I was starting pasta. Ended up boiling bottled water on the grill outside like some kind of camping trip, totally ridiculous. Cold sandwiches are a solid save though, gotta respect the hustle. What kind of sandwiches did you end up making?

You calling it a "solid save" is exactly how I used to see it. I always thought a backup plan was just about fixing the problem. But after that night, I realized it's more about keeping the mood from getting wrecked. The sandwiches were just turkey and cheese, nothing special. But everyone was still laughing and eating instead of being mad about the stove. That's the real win.

Respect that you turned it into a good moment for everyone. But honestly, a cold sandwich by candlelight sounds risky to me, you never know how long a blackout will last. Cooking's a basic skill, and if the power goes out, you can find ways to work around it without just giving up on hot food.
