Showerthought: Onion goggles actually work for crying eyes, not just for show

I was at a friend's house last week cutting a massive yellow onion and bracing for the usual tears. She handed me these cheap looking plastic goggles from her junk drawer. I laughed but put them on. No tears at all. Zero. I thought those things were a gimmick but the science checks out - the vapors can't get in your eyes. Has anyone else had a random kitchen tool surprise them like that?

So you've never had a garlic press just totally fail on you? I bought a nice stainless one and it felt solid but the cloves would never fully go through without jamming it full of garlic skin. Took me ages to realize some just don't handle the job... my old plastic one actually does way better. It's funny how the simple stuff sometimes works better than the expensive tools.

Plastic ones usually have wider holes that don't clog as fast, right? Stainless presses look great but the tiny holes just trap everything. Did you try cleaning it with a toothpick or just toss it entirely?
