Rant: I used to roll my eyes at using frozen veggies in stir fry

I grew up thinking fresh was the only way to go for stir fry, you know, that crisp snap. Then about 4 months ago, I had a bag of frozen bell peppers and onions staring at me from the freezer after a long day at work. Threw them straight into a hot wok with some soy sauce and garlic, no thawing, and they actually held up better than the fresh ones I've let sit too long. Now I'm wondering why I spent extra money on fresh produce that wilts in the fridge when frozen works fine for a Tuesday night dinner scramble. Has anyone else had a similar shift in what they grab from the freezer aisle?

Frozen broccoli is my go-to now. Holds up way better than fresh.

The trick is to not thaw them at all... straight from the freezer into a screaming hot wok, that's what keeps them from getting mushy. I've been doing that with mixed bags of stir fry veggies and they come out with a better texture than fresh stuff I've accidentally left in the crisper drawer for a week. Plus you can keep a backup bag in the freezer for those nights when you forget to grab anything fresh.
