Maybe they're telling you your art is too clean and minimal. Functional beauty always gets mistaken for decoration.

Yeah "functional beauty" hits different when you actually use stuff every day. Reminds me of when I get hype over a really well-made wrench and my friends just see a boring tool. They don't see the clean design that makes it not hurt your hand after eight hours. Guess it's all about what you're used to looking at, ray_king. Some people just aren't trained to see the art in things that have a job to do.

But that idea about needing "training" to see art in tools seems off to me. Sometimes a good wrench is just ERGONOMIC and practical, not actually artistic. Pushing functional beauty can make us forget that REAL art doesn't need to be useful at all.
