That gallery showcase in Portland last summer ruined me for other digital art shows
I went to this small venue downtown, maybe 30 artists total. Every other showcase I've been to just slaps frames on white walls and calls it a day. But they had projectors throwing the art across multiple walls, some pieces had sound design synced up, and they even had a couple VR headsets where you could step inside the paintings. Now I can't sit through another boring slideshow at a convention hall without thinking about how much more impact a piece can have with the right setup. Anyone else hit a show that made everything else feel flat?

That whole show sounds like it rewired your brain for what digital art can actually be. It's funny how that bleeds into other stuff too - I went to a small interactive installation last spring and now regular museums feel like looking at dead butterflies pinned in a case. The way they had the sound and visuals moving together made me realize most places just don't put in the effort to make the art feel alive. Makes me wonder how many other things we accept as normal when there's clearly a better way to do them.

107.3 FM did this whole thing last year where they synced a radio play to a projector mapping on an old warehouse. It was free. You had to stand in this one specific spot for the audio and visuals to line up. Most people walked right through it and missed the whole point. That's the thing about interactive art. It makes you an active participant, not just a viewer. Once your brain learns that feeling, regular museums feel like you're just checking boxes on a list.
