Overheard a guy at a coffee shop say AI art isn't 'real' art and it got me thinking

I was grabbing a latte at this place in Portland last Wednesday and this dude was going off about how digital art, especially AI stuff, is just cheating. He said it takes no skill because you just type words and get a picture. But like, I've been fencing for 12 years and people say the same thing about power tools vs hand tools. The tool doesn't make the art, the person behind it does. Has anyone else run into this gatekeeping in the digital art scene?
