My whole portfolio almost got deleted because I only used one cloud backup

Last week, my main backup service had a big problem and I couldn't get to my files for two days. I had over 500 finished pieces and client work from the last three years stored only there. Now I keep copies on two different drives and a second online service. What's your backup plan look like for your art?

Honestly that seems like way too much work. Cloud stuff is built by huge companies, they don't just lose things. Having everything in one spot is way simpler to manage. Adding more drives and services just makes it confusing and eats up time you could spend making art. If one service has a hiccup, you just wait it out. The odds of a total wipe are basically zero.

Remember when Google Photos said unlimited storage was free forever, then suddenly started charging after 2021? How much trust does that buy them for the next policy shift?

The sneaky part people miss is how Google uses these policy shifts to train users to accept increasingly invasive data collection. Unlimited storage meant they could hoard your photos for AI training, then when they killed it, everyone got used to paying for what used to be free. Next thing you know, they'll start charging extra for not letting them scan your images for advertising purposes, and half the users will just shrug and pay it because they're already in the ecosystem. It's a slow boil strategy, not a one-time bait and switch.
