Just had my digital painting crash and lose 4 hours of work

I was at my desk in Denver last night, working on a fantasy landscape piece for a local showcase, and my tablet driver just froze up mid-brushstroke. The whole program went down, and when I reopened it, the file was corrupted and all my manual autosave slots were empty. Has anyone else had their drawing software eat a huge chunk of time like that, or am I the only one not running constant backups?

Stop blaming the software and start taking responsibility for your own workflow. Autosave is not a backup, it is a convenience feature that fails all the time if the program crashes hard enough. Set your painting program to save incremental versions every 15 minutes, or use a cloud folder that syncs after every stroke, and you will never lose more than a few minutes of work again.

Man @xena_rivera63 is right, losing hours of work to a crash feels terrible and I feel for anyone who's had that happen.
