Hot take: That "subtle feedback" about my brush strokes actually made my art way better
I post my digital portraits in here pretty regular and got a comment like 6 months ago from some dude saying my strokes were too "perfect" and looked like a filter. I was kinda pissed at first ngl. But after sitting on it for a couple days I tried just being way looser with my lines in Procreate on my iPad. Used bigger brushes, left some sketchy bits in. Now my stuff actually looks like someone drew it instead of a computer. Anyone else get criticism that stung at first but you ended up glad you listened?

That "too perfect" thing hits hard because you're trying to be good at it and someone basically says you're trying too hard. I had someone tell me my shadows were too clean, like I was scared to mess them up. Started smudging them with my thumb in the actual painting, stuff got way more life to it. Funny how the thing that bugs you most is usually the thing holding you back.

Right, because nothing stings quite like being told all your hard work looks like a robot did it. I swear, I spent a solid week just mad that someone could even think that about my stuff. But @robin_campbell36 hit the nail on the head - the thing that annoys you the most is usually the thing you're too scared to fix. Now I can't even go back to those clean lines without thinking they look like a boring app filter. Guess we just had to get our egos bruised a little to actually improve, huh?
