My buddy lost a whole day because his log just said "alternator, maybe.

Oh man, that's the worst. I got burned like that once and now I write down every single part number I even look at. Like last time, I wrote "Bosch 012345 battery" and "ACDelco 10-4047 belt" right in my notes app. It saves so much time when you go back to the store. Why make it harder on yourself, right?

That's smart to write down part numbers, but what about taking a photo of the actual part before you pull it out? Sometimes the number is stamped in a weird spot you'd never see on a shelf. Got a water pump once where the only ID was on the back flange, covered in grime. A quick picture saved the trip back when the new one looked totally different. How often do you find the part number in a sneaky place like that?
