Showerthought: I thought that 'diesel fuel additive' stuff was just snake oil for years.
Had a stubborn 6.7 Powerstroke with constant injector knock, and a guy at the parts counter in Boise swore by a specific cetane booster. I tried it for two tanks, and the knock smoothed right out. Anyone know if this works on older mechanical engines too, or is it just for the new computer-controlled stuff?

Yeah, it's a good feeling when that old engine finally quiets down.

My buddy's old 7.3 IDI ran way quieter after he started using some additive in his fuel.

You might want to be careful with additives in those old IDI engines. They can sometimes loosen up gunk that was actually holding things together, causing more issues down the road. I've seen a few guys chase noise with additives only to end up with injector problems or fuel system leaks.
