Read a study that said DEF consumption on newer light-duty diesels is way higher than the EPA estimates, found it in a fleet maintenance report from a rental company in Tampa.

They were tracking a bunch of 2022 Ram 1500 EcoDiesels and some Ford Power Strokes. The report showed they were going through a full DEF tank almost twice as fast as the window sticker said they would under normal driving, not even towing. I always figured those estimates were optimistic, but not by that much. Makes me wonder if we're gonna see more clogged SCR systems sooner than expected from people just topping off when the light comes on. Has anyone else seen real-world numbers that are this far off?

Twice as fast as the window sticker? That's crazy. I knew the numbers were a bit off, but that's a huge difference.

Eh, I mean, is it really that big of a deal? Maybe the guy was just driving downhill with a tailwind or something. Those window stickers are always best case scenario anyway, not real world numbers. I'd wait to see a few more people test it before I get too worked up about it.

Well, my own truck's DEF gauge is basically a random number generator, so I believe it.
