Old timer told me to swap oil filters every other change on my 6.7 Cummins

My neighbor Bob, been turning wrenches since the 70s, swore I could run a filter for 10,000 miles no problem. I listened because he always seemed to know his stuff. After 6 months, I pulled the old filter and found metal shavings stuck in the pleats from a slowly failing turbo bearing. That saved me from a full rebuild, but now I wonder how many miles I was circulating that junk. Anyone else ever get bad advice from a seasoned guy that almost cost you?

Nah "10k no problem" is old school thinking that can kill a modern diesel.

That "10,000 miles no problem" line almost got me too, glad you caught it.
