Just realized exhaust smoke clues beat waiting on the computer
Honestly, a bunch of shops say to just plug in the scanner first thing now. But I learned to watch the smoke color years ago, and it still gets me to the problem way faster. Tbh, spotted a clogged air filter yesterday from the black smoke before I even opened the tool box.

Wait now, how often do you really see serious smoke problems anymore though? Most cars run pretty clean these days.

My uncle's old farm truck would belch blue smoke like a cartoon character every cold start. We called it the Smokey Bandit until the rings finally gave up.
