Heard a guy at the truck stop in Billings say his injectors were 'singing'

I was grabbing coffee yesterday and overheard a driver telling another mechanic his 6.7 Powerstroke had a high-pitched hum before it lost power. He called it 'singing'. I'd always just called it injector noise, but that word made me listen closer to a Duramax I was working on today. Sure enough, there was a faint whistle in the rail I almost missed. Has anyone else picked up on a specific sound that tipped them off before a code even tripped?

Yeah, saw a forum post about that exact thing on a diesel page. They called it the "death whistle" before a high pressure fuel pump goes, lol. Makes you listen for all the little noises now.

Death whistle" sounds a bit dramatic... is that a real thing or just forum talk? My old diesel makes weird noises all the time and it's still going.

That "death whistle" thing is wild, lol. So is it a specific pitch or like a change in the normal injector tick? Trying to figure out what to actually listen for.
