Had a guy at a truck stop in Bakersfield tell me he never uses a torque wrench on head bolts, just 'feels' it. He said he's done over 200 engines that way.

I saw a guy at the shop last week trying to fix a stripped bolt with an impact wrench set way too high. The whole flange just twisted like a tin can. It's not just about warping, you can actually shear off mounting points or crack the casting if you go in too hard. That kind of damage is way past a simple fix. Always start low and slow with the torque, feel it out. Going full power right away is a guaranteed trip to the parts store.
