Finally bought a $60 diesel compression tester after years of guessing

Pulled it out on a 7.3 Powerstroke I been chasing a miss on, found cylinder 5 at 280 psi compared to 350 on the others. That saved me like 3 days of swapping parts, has anyone else kicked themself for putting off buying one of these things?

Did you used to be one of those "just throw parts at it" guys too?

Yeah I was that guy for a while. What finally clicked for me was keeping a log of what I tried and what actually fixed it. After a few months I started seeing patterns and got better at diagnosing stuff instead of guessing.

Dude that's exactly how I felt. I used to think compression testers were a waste of money until I pulled my hair out on a no-start. And yeah @the_michael I was totally that parts cannon guy for way too long lol.
