Compared open element injectors vs pintle style on a 7.3 Powerstroke

Last month I swapped out my old pintle style injectors for open element ones on my 7.3. Thought it would be a simple upgrade. But the open elements made the engine run rough at idle and fuel economy dropped by 2 mpg. After three weeks of messing with tuning I put the pintles back in. Engine smoothed right out and my mileage went back to 18 mpg highway. Has anyone else had better luck with one type over the other?

You mentioned "fuel economy dropped by 2 mpg" and that's exactly what happened to me too. I tried open elements on my 7.3 a couple years back and got the same rough idle and worse mileage. Swapped back to pintles after a week and everything was fine again. Some people swear by open elements but they just don't seem to work well with these engines unless you do a ton of other mods to match them.
