Was dead sure D&D Beyond was a cash grab until my group ran Curse of Strahd on it

Honestly I spent like 3 years refusing to touch any digital tool for tabletop games. Thought it was just another way for Wizards to squeeze money out of people who already bought the books. Then our usual DM moved to Portland last spring and we tried running a session over Discord with D&D Beyond. With the campaign sharing feature and linked maps that auto reveal fog of war, we cut our setup time down from 30 minutes to like 5. The encounter builder saved us from a TPK when we accidentally threw a coven of night hags at a level 3 party last month. I still prefer physical dice for rolling though. Has anyone else found a digital tool that actually made your game run smoother?

Oh come on, it's REALLY not that deep. You're acting like they invented the wheel instead of just making character sheets load faster on a browser.

Reminds me of when my uncle spent six months building a custom bookshelf. He got all these special tools, measured everything twice, the whole deal. Looked great but the thing was too deep for the wall we put it in. Still there though, collecting dust and a few books. Sometimes people just like making stuff complicated because they enjoy the process, not because it actually needs to be that way.
