So I tried grid-based combat after years of theater of the mind...
Ran a session last night in the basement with my group and I finally get why people swear by hex maps. We were doing this chase scene through the docks of Port Nyanzaru and with theater of the mind everyone argued about who was where for 10 minutes. On the grid it took maybe 2 minutes to set up and the rogue actually used his bonus action dash to cut through three alleys. Has anyone else had that moment where switching systems just clicked for you?

Ten minutes of arguing?! I would have lost my mind by round two and just started duct taping everyone to a chair lol. Grids are a lifesaver for that stuff, the rogue move alone sounds worth it.

The thing nobody mentions is how a grid can actually make certain classes feel completely different. I played a wizard once and couldnt get good position for fireball because everyone kept moving around. With a grid I could actually plan where to drop it and hit three enemies without catching my own tank. @ninal91 I think the real test is when someone tries to argue grid measurements mid combat, that's when the tape comes out.
