The old DM screen I bought at a flea market in Tulsa changed my prep style

Picked up a beat-up 1980s DM screen for $8 last month and built a whole campaign around its random encounter tables. Having those weird charts right in front of me made me improvise way more than my usual binder of notes. Anyone else run games with older gear just to shake up how you plan?

Wait, you found a DM screen in Tulsa for eight bucks and it has random encounter tables built in? Eight dollars is what I pay for a burrito bowl, not for a piece of gaming history that rewrites your whole prep style. I gotta know, does it have those classic charts where you roll a dire wolf on a 1 and a freaking beholder on a 00? Because if so, I would build a campaign around that thing too, but I'd probably die in session one when I rolled that beholder at level 1. That's not shaking up your planning, that's just chaos with a cardboard shield.
