Pixel art vs battle maps, which one actually helps your table more?
I used to run every encounter on a gridded battle map, but after our group moved to Roll20 last fall, I switched to pixel art backgrounds for fights. The vibe is way cooler, but I swear my players spend more time zooming in on the pixel trees than tracking the goblin archer in the corner. In our last session at Denver's game cafe, two of them missed their turns because they were arguing about whether a sprite was a mimic. Has anyone else traded function for flavor, or do you think detailed pixel art genuinely improves tactical play?
