Ditched the graph paper for a whiteboard when mapping dungeons

I used to spend hours with a ruler and graph paper drawing out every 10 foot square. Switched to a whiteboard 6 months ago after I ran a session where the party went off my map completely and I had to improvise 3 rooms anyway. Has anyone else found a tool that made their prep way faster?

My buddy Ryan swore by whiteboards for years and I thought he was just being lazy. Then I had a session where the players decided to tunnel through a wall instead of finding the hidden door I spent 30 minutes detailing on graph paper. I grabbed a dry erase marker and sketched out three new rooms on the fly in like two minutes. That moment sold me completely. Now I keep a small whiteboard for rough layouts and only use graph paper for the really important set pieces. It saves me about an hour of prep each week.

oh yeah totally @kevin_hernandez83, the whiteboard thing is a lifesaver. i had a similar moment when my players decided to burn down the tavern instead of talking to the npc i had ready. i just drew a pile of ash on the board and called it good.
