A one-shot that went off the rails in the best way possible

I ran a simple level 3 dungeon crawl last Saturday where the goblin boss rolled a nat 20 on intimidation and my players actually fled the whole setup instead of fighting. They spent the next three hours bartering with a grumpy owlbear merchant I made up on the spot, and that ended up being the most memorable session I've had in two years. Has anyone else had a campaign moment where the dice just hijacked your whole plan and made it better?

My last boss got charmed into a wedding and honestly it saved the whole campaign.

Heard a story once from a guy at my local game store who had a similar thing happen. His party was supposed to raid a cult hideout, but the rogue rolled so badly on a lockpick check that the door jammed and made a huge racket. Instead of a fight, the cult leader came out to see what the noise was, and the whole session turned into a tense conversation where they ended up joining the cult for the free snacks. He said it completely changed his plans for the next six months, but everyone still talks about that night. Sometimes the dice know better than the module, you know?
