Vent: That week at the card convention was a disaster for me

I went to the Magic & Card Collectors Expo in Chicago last month and had the worst three days ever. I brought 12 decks to trade, and someone spilled soda right on my bag on day one, ruining a 2016 Gold Monarchs deck I had in a plastic case. Then I tried to barter for a guy's NOC v3s but he wanted $80 cash plus two of my good decks, which felt like robbery. Has anyone else had a whole trip go bad before the real trading even started?

Read a piece in a collecting newsletter about how these big conventions have gotten too crowded and careless. Sounds like that was your experience too. It's a real shame when someone's lack of consideration ruins a good deck for you. That $80 plus two decks for NOC v3s is pure greed, plain and simple. I've seen similar markup stories from other shows lately, with prices just going through the roof for no good reason. Hope you didn't let it spoil your whole trip, but I get why you'd be frustrated.

Oh man, I feel this so much... I took my whole collection to a show in Dallas last year and some kid knocked over a display rack right onto my binder, bent the corners on three of my best decks before I even made it past the entrance. And yeah, the pricing has gotten ridiculous, I had a guy try to charge me $100 for a used deck that was just sitting in a pile on a table like it was some kind of treasure. It's like people forgot this is supposed to be about trading and having fun, not trying to rip off every person who walks by.
