Overheard a guy at the card shop say his Bicycle deck has a missing 7 of clubs

I was flipping through my collection last night and found a 2015 Artisan deck I bought from a guy in Portland, and sure enough, the 7 of clubs was gone from that one too. Made me wonder if there's some weird factory error batch or if people just pocket specific cards for magic tricks. Has anyone else found a missing card from a sealed deck and actually tracked down which print run it came from?

Factory errors do happen, but more likely someone pulled the 7 of clubs for a trick and put the deck back. The Artisan series had some specific runs in 2015 where a few batches got shorted on certain cards, but it was mostly the 8 and 9 of spades from what I remember reading on the United Cardists forum. Best thing is to check the bottom flap of the box for the print code, usually a small number or letter combo printed in black ink. Keep a log of those codes when you find a missing card, and after a few decks you might spot a pattern. The Portland guy might have just been careless, but if multiple decks from different sources are missing the same card, that points to a specific run.
