I used to hate gaff cards, now I can't stop using them

For like two years I thought gaff cards were a crutch, you know, for people who couldn't do real sleights. Then last month I bought a cheap deck with a blank-faced joker and a double-backer just to mess around, and it completely changed my mind. The thing is, I kept seeing folks at poker night fumble with duplicate card setups, holding two cards cocked at weird angles so they don't flash. A simple double-backer solves that in one move, and I finally get why magicians swear by them. It's not about cheating, it's about making the routine smoother, and honestly my spectator reactions doubled since I started using them. Has anyone else flipped on gaff cards after hating them, or am I the only stubborn one?

Ha, I had the exact opposite experience! I used to love gaff cards until I tried doing a sandwich effect with a double-backer and accidentally dropped it face up on the floor. The spectator picked it up and just stared at it for like five seconds. I froze, but then I just said "that's the secret card" and laughed it off. Now I keep a couple gaffs in my wallet but only for quick tricks, not the main set. The real game changer for me was realizing a blank card can be a force card if you just draw a smiley face on it, people never see that coming. But yeah, I get what you mean about smoothness, my old duplicate setups looked like I was trying to hide a sandwich in my palm.
