Warning: Stop buying audiophile earbuds without checking the treble peak first

I grabbed a pair of $40 KZ ZS10 Pro off Amazon based on hype and the cymbal crashes sounded like shattered glass after 20 minutes of listening. Has anyone else had a budget earbud ruin a playlist because of harsh high frequencies?

Did you try swapping the cable or tips before giving up on them? I've had a couple of budget sets where the stock cable and tips made things way worse than they had to be. Just a cheap foam tip swap toned down the harshness on my CCA CRA for example.

Ugh, totally feel you on that! Swapping tips is literally the cheapest thing you can do to totally change a pair of IEMs. I had a budget set that sounded super thin and harsh with the stock silicone, but some random foam tips I had lying around made them actually enjoyable to listen to. It's kind of wild how much the seal and the material affect the whole sound signature.
