Took my 6 year old's school headphones for a spin, whoa

My kid left her class headphones in my truck on Tuesday. The cheap ones the school sells for like $8. I grabbed them for a quick podcast while I waited on a supply run. Honestly? They sounded way fuller than my $70 pair from Best Buy. Not as loud but the bass was there. Made me question what I'm even paying for. Is it just build quality and looks at this point? Anyone else tried the super cheap stuff and been shocked?

Wait, so the secret to good sound is just buying the cheapest stuff they make? That's honestly kind of hilarious and also a little annoying for my wallet. I'm tempted to raid the school supply closet now and see what else they're hiding in there.
