Public library listening session changed my whole EQ approach
Last Tuesday I took my cans to the downtown library's quiet floor because my apartment was getting AC work done. I set up with my usual flat EQ and started playing a live jazz record, when a guy across the table took off his own headphones and asked what I was listening to. We got to talking and he showed me how he runs his IEMs with a big mid scoop to cut through room noise, which I always thought was a bad idea. I tried it for an hour and realized that in a quiet space, my flat profile made everything sound thin and harsh. Now I'm torn between tuning for home quiet versus noisy commutes. Do you folks adjust your EQ for the room you're in, or do you keep one profile everywhere and just deal with it? The library incident made me question my whole 'set it once' habit.
