Buddy at work told me my ANC was actually making my tinnitus worse

He said the silence from noise cancelling was just making my ears focus on the ringing, so I switched to open backs for 3 days of background noise and now I can actually sleep without that static buzz - has anyone else had their audiologist tell them the same thing?

Funny you mention that, a buddy of mine had the exact same experience. Did your audiologist actually adjust your ANC settings or just tell you to switch headphones? I'm curious if they mentioned any specific frequency ranges that make the ringing worse. I've heard some people say open backs help because the background noise masks the tinnitus, but for others it's more about the pressure from the seal. What kind of open backs did you switch to? I'm trying to figure out if the shape of the earcup matters more than the sound leakage.

@the_lucas is on the right track but is it really that complicated? Buds are buds. Maybe try some cheap earbuds and see if it still bugs you before getting your whole setup analyzed.
