Bought a no-name smart plug last month and the app wanted a 4-digit code printed on the manual, which I threw out. Anyone else get burned by gadgets that don't work with Google Home or Alexa out of the box?
Losing 60 bucks to a plug that needs a secret code from paper you already tossed is a special kind of pain. My cousin bought one of those cheap wifi plugs and the app made him scan the box barcode just to turn a lamp on. The box was in the trash within an hour of setting it up, so the plug became a very expensive paperweight. Half these no name brands slap "works with Alexa" on the box but forget to mention you need their janky app first. Feels like the setup was designed by someone who hates people.
