My vet said to stop letting my beagle sniff for 20 minutes straight and it fixed our walks
I used to let Rufus plant his nose on the same patch of grass on our route through Patterson Park for a solid 20 minutes every morning because I figured sniffing was his walk, not mine. At his checkup last month the vet said that long sniff-fests actually spike his cortisol and told me to cap it at 5 minutes per spot, so now we do a quick sniff, a brisk loop, then a calm sniff at the end. Has anyone else had a vet say something like this, and did your dog actually seem calmer after you switched it up?
