My dog and I hit 1,000 miles on the same loop around Green Lake and I almost missed it
I track our walks with a cheap phone app, mostly because my vet asked how much exercise my dog Rufus gets and I had no real answer. Last Tuesday the counter rolled over to 1,000 miles, and it caught me off guard because it never felt like that much. We do the same 2.8 mile loop around Green Lake here in Seattle almost every morning, rain or shine, and I figured we were maybe at 400 or 500. The math works out to about 357 laps, which sounds insane when I say it out loud. What got me is that the number came from all the boring days, not the big weekend hikes I used to think were the real exercise. Rufus is a 9 year old lab mix and his vet says his joints look great for his age, so the slow daily stuff must be doing something. Now I'm wondering if I should switch up the route or just keep stacking laps. Has anyone else tracked their dog's mileage and did the number surprise you too?
