Leash or no leash at the reservoir, I learned my lesson the hard way

For six months I let my terrier run free on the 5 acre off-leash field near the Hendricks Reservoir. Last Tuesday she bolted after a deer and vanished for 20 minutes, I found her muddy and scared by the spillway. Now I keep her clipped on the 15 foot long line even when other owners give me side eyes. Has anyone else made the switch from free running to a long line and actually stuck with it?

Honestly, the long line changed everything for us once I stopped caring what others thought.

5
