Update: Tried a pun about my drill battery at the hardware store, got actual groans

I tested a new one on the guy at the counter: 'My battery's dead, guess it's discharged from all this work.' He didn't smile, just sighed and handed me the receipt. So I figure if I got a real groan out of a random stranger, it's ready for the family barbecue next weekend. Any other spots where you test your material first?

The hardware store clerks are the ultimate comedy judges, man. My last pun got me a receipt shoved in my hand and a muttered "don't quit your day job." Honestly though, if you got a groan instead of a blank stare, that's a solid pass in my book.

Three times now Ive gotten a "that's what she said" out of a guy at Lowes stocking PVC pipes and every single time he just shook his head and kept walking without even looking up. It made me realize these retail workers get hit with dad jokes way more than anyone gives them credit for. They probably hear like 20 bad puns per shift and have just learned to tune them out for survival. Its like a whole hidden layer of social interaction where nobody wins but nobody really loses either.
