Tried the rhyming dictionary trick for puns, now I get it

Honestly, I always thought using a rhyming dictionary was cheating until I needed a punchline for a plumbing joke at a party last month. I plugged in 'drain' and got 'basin,' which turned into my best groaner of the night: 'I tried to fix my sink, but it was a basinless pursuit.' Has anyone else found that a little outside help actually makes the puns land better, or is it still cheating in your book?

That sink pun is genuinely great, and the fact that you landed it at a party makes it even better. My partner gives me a hard time about pulling up a thesaurus when I'm stuck on a joke, but half the time it just shakes something loose in my brain that I never would have thought of on my own. Feels less like cheating and more like having a buddy to bounce ideas off of.
