Tried a pun generator for my dad joke set and it bombed hard

I was stuck for material before my nephew's birthday party last weekend so I used one of those free joke generator websites. It gave me a line about a penguin and a toaster that just made people stare at me. Learned my lesson, I'm sticking to my own silly wordplay from now on. Has anyone else had a generator backfire like that?

Wait, have you always been a believer in generators or did you just start using them? I used to think those joke sites were a goldmine for quick material, but after reading your story about the penguin toaster flop I'm totally rethinking that now. Sometimes the old fashioned way of just making up your own dumb jokes is way better than relying on some random algorithm.

Jumped right into that same trap myself last year, joelthomas, and it still makes me cringe. Those generators just throw random WORDS together with no sense of timing or audience. I used one for a family barbecue and got a line about a horse and a vacuum cleaner that left everyone chewing their food in awkward silence. Stick with your own material even if it feels rough sometimes because at least it's YOUR voice and people can tell it's coming from a real human. Trust me, a dad joke that's genuinely your own dumb creation hits WAY harder than some algorithm's Frankenstein monster of a punchline.
