My dad's puns went from 2 or 3 a week to like 5 a day after he retired in June, and I think I finally figured out why
My dad retired back in June after 34 years at the post office here in Springfield. Before that, he'd drop maybe two or three puns a week, usually at Sunday dinner, and they were solid but not constant. Now it's like he's running a standup set in our group chat every single morning. Last Tuesday alone I got a text about why you shouldn't trust stairs (they're always up to something), then a follow up about the calendar being stressed because its days are numbered. I sat with him on the porch that weekend and he told me the truth: at work he was always worried someone would groan and then complain to his supervisor, so he kept the good stuff locked up. Retired means no boss, no customers, no filter. He's been sitting on puns for three decades like a squirrel with nuts. I honestly think the man has a notebook somewhere. So here's my real question for this group, do you write your puns down first or just fire them off the top of your head when the moment hits? Because I swear his best ones come out with zero warning.
