Jumping in to say your uncle's version probably had that perfect timing thing. Good joke delivery is all about the setup and the pause. Did he wait for your dad to finish before he dropped the better one, or was it more of a smooth cut over?

My cousin did the same thing at Thanksgiving with a knock-knock joke and everyone lost it.
