Ah, the classic "kid gives you a weird look" moment. There's probably a chance you've been telling that punchline wrong the whole time and nobody bothered to correct you until the kid called it out. Honestly, that's better than going another decade thinking you were landing it.

My dad told the same joke about a penguin at a gas station for like 15 years before my niece finally asked him why he kept messing up the ending. I actually think getting corrected by a kid is less embarrassing than having your whole friend group just nod along and never say anything. @hugo_cooper I see where you're coming from with the whole "better to know now" angle but honestly sometimes a bad punchline becomes its own kind of bit if you deliver it with enough confidence.
