My uncle told me to never click a link in a text, even if it looks legit, and last week a fake 'package delivery' text almost got me.

The link went to a site that looked exactly like FedEx, but I checked the sender's number and it was from some random area code, so what other signs do you guys look for with these scams?

Yeah, checking the area code is smart. I also look at the web address bar after I click. Sometimes it'll show a weird string of letters instead of the real company name. Or it asks for way too much info, like your social security number, just to reschedule a delivery.

Good call on the area code check. What about the actual link text itself, like if you hover over it on a computer? Sometimes the blue text says "fedex.com" but the real link underneath is some gibberish.

My buddy clicked one and ended up buying 400 dollars worth of gift cards before he realized.
