I put my router password on a sticky note for 4 years, then caught my neighbor's kid on my WiFi
For years my WiFi password was on a sticky note under the router and I figured nobody would ever bother, until a kid two doors down in Dayton asked me if my network was called Netgear88 because he had been using it for free all summer. I switched to a long random password and turned off WPS that same night, which took maybe 10 minutes but felt like defusing a bomb. How do you all handle guests who want WiFi without handing out your real password, do you have a separate guest network or just tell them no?
Mine was "password123" for way too long and I did the exact same thing, sticky note and all. A guy at the gym actually told me my network name because his phone auto connected when he walked by my house. Felt like such an idiot. After that I set up a guest network with its own name and a password I change every few months. The guest network keeps people off my main one so they can't see my printer or my laptop or any of that. Best part is when someone asks for the WiFi I just hand them the guest password and don't have to worry. Takes two minutes in the router settings and it's worth it.
