Had a librarian show me why public wifi is basically a trap

I was at the downtown Denver library last Tuesday printing some floor plans and the librarian at the desk pointed out how anyone on that network could see my files if I wasn't using a VPN, which made me rethink ever doing banking on free wifi again.

Devil's advocate here but most people's home networks aren't exactly Fort Knox either. Unless you're doing something really sensitive like submitting tax returns, the odds of someone sitting in a library specifically targeting your files are pretty low. Your mileage may vary depending on the neighborhood and time of day, but panic over public wifi is sometimes overblown.

Yeah, I mean I used to be way more paranoid about public wifi, but @xena_miller31 kinda makes a good point here. I guess unless you're filing taxes or something, the risk is pretty minimal.
