Forgot to check the HTTPS certificate on my site for a year

Went to log into my side project in Austin last month and got the big scary warning page. Turns out the cert expired 8 months ago and nobody told me. Has anyone set up automatic renewal without paying for premium hosting?

Did you set the cert up manually in the first place? If you used Let's Encrypt with Certbot it's literally one terminal command to enable auto renewal and you'll be set forever. Lot of people skip that step and then wonder why they get warnings later.

Last time I set up Certbot it took maybe 30 seconds for the cron job and I haven't touched it since. That's the whole trick just don't skip that last step where it asks about auto renewal.

set forever" - lets be real, certs expire every 90 days regardless of auto renewal.
