DAE double-check smart device passwords during a home makeover?
I was setting up my home office after a small renovation and decided to add some smart bulbs for better lighting. When I connected them to my Wi-Fi, I saw they had simple default passwords like 'admin' or '1234'. It hit me that if I didn't change those, anyone nearby could potentially access my home network. I spent the next hour going through all my smart devices, from the thermostat to the security cameras, and updating every password. In my experience, it's easy to forget this step when you're focused on making things look nice or work right. Now, I make it a habit to change defaults immediately, even if it means delaying the setup a bit. Your mileage may vary, but taking this small step can really boost your home's digital security. It's a simple fix that doesn't cost anything but can save a lot of trouble later.

Has anyone ever told you that you're overthinking tech stuff? I mean, I used to just click next on setup and ignore the password part. But seeing how easy it is to find lists of default logins online, it kinda freaked me out. I finally changed my router's password last month after having it for years.

But is it really that big a deal? I've had the same default login on my router for ages and never had a problem. Most folks aren't targeted by hackers anyway. I only know one person who got hacked, and it was because of a phishing email, not their router.

Yeah but routers get hacked all the time to steal data or use your internet for scams. Why make it easy for them?
