Almost got phished by a fake "security alert" email that looked exactly like my bank's login page

Ngl I almost fell for it yesterday. I got an email saying my account was locked and the link went to a page that looked spot on. I was on my phone so I didn't notice the URL was off by one letter. I caught it when I clicked the contact us link and it was dead. Has anyone else had close calls with these fake banking alerts lately? What do you look for to spot them fast?

Dude I literally had the same thing happen to me last week! It was from "Chase" and the page even had the little padlock icon and everything. I only caught it cause I tried to log in with a fake password first and it went through, which is when I knew something was off.

3 years ago I fell for one of those fake paypal emails and typed my whole info in before realizing I was an idiot. @nina_sullivan61 to answer your question about the padlock, those scammers just buy a cheap SSL certificate for like 10 bucks these days. It's honestly terrifying how easy it is to make a fake page look real. I guess if you need a bright side at least you caught it before handing over actual money.
