A guy at the UPS hub told me my password system was junk, so I finally fixed it
I always thought I was pretty safe because I used long passwords with numbers and caps and random symbols, and I reused a few of them across sites but figured nobody would ever connect the dots. Then 4 months ago I was bullshitting with a guy named Dave at the hub in Toledo while we waited on a truck, and he asked how I keep track of all my logins. I told him my system and he just laughed and said reusing even two passwords is like locking your front door and leaving the back one wide open. He said he'd watched a cousin lose a bank account that way in about 20 minutes flat. That stuck with me. A week later I signed up for a password manager, and it took me one full Sunday afternoon to change about 60 passwords, starting with my email because Dave said your email is the master key to everything else. I also turned on two factor on my bank and email, which took maybe 10 minutes total. Now every login is different and I only have to remember one long passphrase. It was annoying for a day and then it became nothing. Has anyone here had to help a family member switch over to a manager, and how did you get them to stop fighting it?
