That one student who called my writing prompt 'actually fun'

Last Thursday during our creative writing block, I threw out a weird prompt about a vending machine that only dispenses memories. One quiet kid who never speaks wrote three full pages and handed it to me with a note that said "this was actually fun, can we do more like this?" It hit me right in the chest because I usually second-guess my prompts. Have any of you had a moment where a total stranger or student surprised you with feedback like that?

dude that's awesome. nothing beats that feeling when someone actually gets what you're going for, especially from a kid who usually keeps to themselves. you clearly hit on something real with that prompt.

right? like i'd be lucky if i got more than a grunt out of most kids, let alone a handwritten compliment. makes you wonder if they're just really good at hiding their approval or if we're all just bad at picking prompts. i'm half expecting that kid to start a underground vending machine memory black market now. maybe i accidentally tapped into some deep trauma or something lol.
